Less Common: This is the true black cumin, also known as kala jeera (black cumin in Hindi) or shahi jeera (royal cumin).
Appearance: Longer, thinner, and darker than regular cumin seeds, with a crescent shape.
Flavor Profile: Milder, more piney, and slightly sweeter than regular cumin.
Culinary Uses: Primarily used in Northern Indian and Middle Eastern dishes, especially in rich, non-vegetarian Mughlai cuisine. Often toasted and added whole to curries, stews, and rice dishes.
Health Benefits: While also having some health benefits, it’s not as extensively studied as Nigella sativa.
