Golden Ghat Spices: Our organization is operating from Kumily in Idukki district, the spice capital of Kerala.
This agricultural district is blessed with a natural landscape and climate, rich in mountains and greenery. It encompasses famous and naturally beautiful areas within the lap of the Western Ghats, including Munnar, Thekkady, Vagamon, Peermade, and Idukki.
The climate and topography here are suitable for cultivating almost all types of agricultural produce. The Cardamom Hill Reserve (CHR), a vast 86,000-hectare area specifically designated by the government for cardamom cultivation, is also located here. The Periyar Sub-Cluster, part of the Western Ghats and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also situated in this region.
Primarily, the world’s finest varieties of spices are cultivated here. Cardamom, known as the “Queen of Spices,” and black pepper, known as the “King of Spices,” are the main crops.
Similarly, high-quality tea, coffee, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, Malabar tamarind (kudampuli), vanilla, allspice, and various types of vegetables and fruits are also extensively cultivated here.
These crops are found in both small, marginal farmlands and large plantations.
However, agriculture often becomes unprofitable due to various adverse factors such as natural calamities, climate change, pest attacks, and price fluctuations in the international market. This poses a significant crisis for those who rely solely on agriculture for their livelihood.
This crisis can be overcome to a certain extent if there is consistent demand. Golden Ghat Spices aims to create a stable platform for these high-quality products.
Golden Ghat operates as a channel to consistently deliver products from our own farms, along with those from marginal farmers and local traders who collect and distribute them (both value-added and non-value-added), to consumers in various parts of the world at reasonable prices.
Although we initiated our operations in a small way using social media and a website around 2018, we had to take a short break due to COVID-19 and other unfavorable circumstances.
Currently, Golden Ghat Spices has been revitalized as a subsidiary of the organization registered under the name Nature & Life.
We are now actively working towards achieving our goals. Golden Ghat is dedicated to promoting premium spices from Idukki district, exploring their value-addition potential, establishing a stable market for them, and educating the world about these excellent products.
